Putnam shared some of his goals during a Town Hall meeting hosted by Councilman Ken Waters last week at Wren High School.
Legislators return to session in January.
One of Putnam’s goals is to open up a District Office in Powdersville.
“I don’t know of many state representatives throughout the state that have a district office, but it’s something that I feel like I need to have — a door that’s open to you, so you can come in with your concerns,” Putnam said.
Putnam’s campaign will provide the district office.
He said he’d like to have the office open by the time legislators return to Columbia.
Putnam said he will host Town Hall meeting in the coming months
“Before January rolls around, I want to hear your concerns and your ideas for pieces of legislation,” Putnam said.
Due to the turnaround time of forming and passing new legislation, Putnam said he would focus on amendments in the coming legislative session.
One idea Putnam is working on is allowing volunteers fire departments to use offroad diesel fuel for fire engine and other department vehicles.
“Offroad diesel is cheaper because it’s not taxed,” Putnam said. “It’s about thirty cents cheaper than regular on-road diesel. It doesn’t really make sense that we’re paying an extra thirty cents per gallon on diesel fuel.”
He is in the midst of converting his campaign website to be a representative’s web site.
“You’ll be able to go to the web site and email me directly,” Putnam said. “It’ll be a whole new email system, so we can respond back to you in a timely matter, get your questions answered and get your questions put to the right people. It’ll be a new website oriented to solving your problems in the district and finding you the resources that you need.
His website will also host weekly updates while legislators are in session.
“So you know what’s going in Columbia and how it’s affecting your lives,” Putnam said.
