CLEMSON — The Clemson Festival of Arts rained out on May 18 has been rescheduled for June 22.
The festival, traditionally held in downtown Clemson was canceled due to rain and lighting. At 7:30 AM, Saturday, May 18, the National Weather Service showed an 85 percent chance of rain and lightning for Clemson. The majority of the art activities and music planned could not be set up in the wet conditions with rain pouring at the time, so the festival committee, artists, and volunteers present made the hard decision to call the festival.
“We decided to reschedule Clemson Festival of Arts for June 22, same time, same place, same art activities for all ages.” said Tommye Hurst, executive director. In case of inclement weather, THE ARTS CENTER will be the “rain location”. The festival will not be cancelled because of inclement weather June 22, but will be relocated to The ARTS Center at 212 Butler Street, so the artwork can be sold inside, and the activities will take place under tents in the Sculpture Garden.
The festival will feature hands-on art projects, a “flash-art” project, live music, fresh and local food, free fun for kids, and local artists selling their works. Admission is free.
“Our theme this year is ‘Come Dabble in the Arts’,” said Hurst. “Everyone will have the chance to create and to participate. It is just a taste of what we do for the community, here at The Arts Center.”
The festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Catherine Smith Plaza, the park with fountains on College Avenue in downtown Clemson, next to the old AstroTheater. Edgewood Avenue will be closed the day of the festival.
Members of the Artists Guild of Clemson will have booths where they will sell their works and give demonstrations. The festival will include many arts activities for children, and the adjoining JayceePark has a playground where children can play while their parents enjoy the festival.
Admission and all activities are free. Food and the work of local artists will be available for sale. A variety of local musicians will perform throughout the day.
“It’s going to be a great event for adults and children alike,” Hurst said. “We encourage everyone to come dabble in the arts on June 22.”
