Students from all over South Carolina auditioned for All-State orchestra on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Lexington High School. Anderson School District One students from Palmetto, Wren and Powdersville High Schools were chosen from this group of talented musicians. Palmetto High was represented by Mary-Cate Rogers, an 11th grade student; Wren High was represented by Jada Tate and Hayden Campbell, both 11th grade students; and Powdersville High was represented by Lee Street, a 9th grade student.

These students rehearsed with world renowned conductors Scott Laird and Robert Culver on Friday, February 24 through Sunday, February 26 at Myrtle Beach High School and gave an inspiring concert to a packed house on Sunday afternoon. The students played pieces by Dvorak, Britten, and Henry Mancini, to name a few. Kathy Perry, Orchestra Director at Wren High School, is the All-State Chairman.

Jane Harrison, Anderson One District Coordinator for the fine arts program, said, “Our strings teachers do an excellent job in preparing our students to excel in their musical ability. Each year students are recognized for their performances in many different venues. The Anderson One teachers are: Candace Henry (Palmetto feeder Schools), Heather Raffini (Powdersville secondary schools), Brian Velasco (Powdersville/Wren elementary schools), and Kathy Perry (Wren secondary schools).
