POWDERSVILLE – Proceeds from an event Friday at Walgreens will go toward North Anderson Relay for Life.

The Family Fun Day will be held at Walgreens from noon to 5 p.m. Friday.

The event will feature games for children, a raffle, hot dogs, drinks, baked goods, and more.

Powdersville firefighters will be on hand, and attendees will have a chance to see a fire truck. Have your picture taken with the firefighters and receive a free 4 X 6 photo.

Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the Family Fun Day.

While you’re at the Family Fun Day, don’t forget to see what Walgreens has to offer in its beauty, photo and pharmacy departments.

All proceeds will go to North Anderson Relay for Life.

Pepsi, Sara Lee and Nickhenry’s Restaurant are sponsoring the event.

As the Post previously reported, the North Anderson 2012 Relay for Life will be held at Wren High School this year.

The event begins at 7 p.m. on May 4 and lasts all night, ending at 7 a.m. on May 5. The North Anderson Relay will include the communities of Piedmont, Powdersville, Pelzer and Williamston.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer

In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, team members typically take turns walking the track throughout the day and night. For those not walking, there is constant action to keep everyone busy. From entertainment, food and games to touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration, there is something for everyone at Relay For Life.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Relay For Life began with one man in Tacoma, Washington in 1985 and is now a worldwide movement to end cancer, with over 5,600 events across America that raised more than 400 million dollars in 2011. These funds help the American Cancer Society achieve their mission of eliminating cancer as a major health concern.

Every Relay For Life event we celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer through the Survivor’s Lap and survivor recognition. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight. Relay participants also remember loved ones lost to the disease, and those who have survived and are currently battling cancer with the always moving Luminaria Ceremony.
