POWDERSVILLE – Wren High School students were evacuated Friday morning after someone called in a bomb threat.

“It was a copycat from Ware Shoals,” said Director of Elementary Education Jane Harrison, referring to a bomb threat called in to Ware Shoals High School Thursday.

She said someone left a note in the school’s bathroom.

“It was found at about 9:15 a.m.,” Harrison said Friday morning. “All the students and faculty were evacuated immediately.”

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, and after about an hour, deemed it safe for the students to return after deputies inspected the school.

“If they thought they were going to get out for the day, they were wrong,” Harrison said. “Everything’s back to normal now. It was a good ending.”

Parents were notified through Anderson District Ones Edulink system, she said.

Harrison said nearby Wren Elementary and Wren Middle schools were placed on “semi-lockdown.”

“Parents were able to come in to the schools, but we didn’t let anybody leave,” she said.

ASAP testing has been going on at Wren High School all week, but Friday was a makeup test day, Harrison said.

“Somebody had just finished their last question when it happened,” Harrison said.

The tests were taken up and secured before the evacuation, she said.
