ANDERSON COUNTY - The Anderson County Library System kicks off its annual Summer Reading

Club with registration opening at the Main Library and all branch libraries on Friday, June 1. This year’s theme is “Dream Big – READ!”

The library system will have reading programs for children, teens, and adults. There are weekly children’s sessions at each library and special free events during the summer that get underway the week of June 11.

Children’s programs for ages six to 12 will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Powdersville Branch Library, 4 Civic Court. In order to win Reading Medals, children up to five years of age can be registered in the Listeners Club. They must read 30 picture books or can have books read to them. The Dreamers Club is for readers between six and 12 years old who must read at least 30 books at their grade level.

“Sleeping Beauty” will be presented by Becky’s Box of Puppets at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19. Becky’s exquisite, hand-crafted puppets will bring the favorite fairy tale to life for everyone from age five to fifty.

Teen programs are scheduled at the library on Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m. beginning June 8. A variety of programs is planned, including a manicure session and a chance to create edible sculptures.

Information sheets about all programs may be picked up at the libraries. For more information, contact the Children’s Services Dept. at 260-4500, ext. 158, Young Adult Librarian Kate Walker at ext. 114, or Adult Programming Librarian Heather Bistyga at ext. 103.
