POWDERSVILLE — Sean Thornton has grown up playing golf since he was a child, and he now serves on the Smithfields Country Club Board of Directors. Now he’s planning a golf tournament from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 1 in Powdersville at Southern Oaks for a fundraiser for the Powdersville Council of the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce.

The cost is $300 per team, or $75 per person for a four-person team, and hole sponsorships are $100 apiece. Investment Concepts is providing breakfast.

The Powdersville Council serves as an arm to the chamber to focus on helping the approximately 70 members in Powdersville, and the golf tournament is supposed to do just that — promote business in the Powdersville area.

“I enjoy planning these kinds of things,” said Thornton, who is also the owner of Kudzu Staffing.

Thornton grew up in the Smithfield area, and played golf there often.

“They actually built Smithfields in Easley in my backyard,” he said.

“Powdersville is growing so much with the new high school coming, and Tri-County Tech. … There’s a lot of business to be done in Powdersville,” he said.

Thornton is also a board member of the Powdersville Council Advisory Board, which was formed early in 2008.
