WREN — Every Monday afternoon, a group of Wren Elementary students, teachers, parents and volunteers get together after school to run.

The Wren Elementary School Running Club meets from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. to prepare for the Anderson County YMCA’s annual Ralph Hayes Toyota Reindeer Run. Participants, who range from first to fifth graders, can choose to run one or three miles during practice and the race.

The team name for the event is the Wren-deer. After running, the students participate in relay races in teams.

Second grade teacher Wendy Burgess said, “This is a great way to get them excited about exercising. We’ve had a lot of fun preparing for this race. The kids seem to enjoy it.”

The annual Reindeer Run takes place on Dec. 5. One-mile participants will begin at 8 a.m. and 5K participants will begin at 8:30 a.m.
