Powdersville Water board members retiring

POWDERSVILLE — Three of the Powdersville Water District’s nine board members are retiring, leaving behind a combined 48 years of service on the board.

During the previous board meeting, the water district honored Norb Steeber, a former Michelin executive who’s been with the district for 12 years. Steeber was chairman for the past nine.

On Thursday, the board recognized Billy Ausburn and Charles Chandler.

“It’s been a pleasure to serve with both of these men,” General Manager Dyke Spencer said. “And I’m sorry to see both of them go.”

Chandler said the feeling was mutual. He recounted the first time he and other board members had met Spencer for an interview at a Cracker Barrel in Columbia.

“I was really impressed with you, Dyke,” he said.

Chandler has lived in Powdersville for the past 35 years and has often been nicknamed the “Mayor of Powdersville.”
