Dressed in Clemson orange, the students and faculty greeted their special guests from Clemson University, The Solid Orange Squad. The group of athletic speakers from Clemson came in to a roaring crowd of students and faculty to help kick off the fundraiser.
The speakers consisted of Michelle Nance and Melissa Weaver from the rowing team and Catalin Baciu, a.k.a. “Bobo” from the basketball team.
The athletes shared some information about their academic and athletic careers at Clemson and about how fitness and eating healthy has helped their bodies and minds.
The S.O.S. members gave the students information about the fundraiser and the key role the students will have in raising $10,000 for their school as well as physically preparing for their fitness walk, scheduled for April 16.
The athletes pumped up the excitement at the school by telling the students about the prizes donated by local community sponsors that will be used as incentives to raise money for their educational needs, such as books and classroom supplies.
The first place prize for the classroom raising the most funds will receive a $100 gift certificate in classroom supplies for his or her classroom. Second place will receive $75 and third place will receive $50.
The S.O.S. closed the assembly by reminding the students that they will play a vital role in working as a team to help represent their school with pride just like the S.O.S. represents Clemson with pride.
