ANDERSON — The Teen Department of the Anderson County Library System will kick off its Summer Reading Program at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, with a “Twilight” Party to celebrate the release of author Stephenie Meyer’s new book, “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.”

The party will take place in the Gambrell Teen Room at the Main Library, 300 N. McDuffie St.

Free copies of the book will be given away and teens can register for the reading program. Participants will win small prizes for every five books read between June 5 and July 24. For every 10 books read, teens will earn an entry for a drawing for an iPod touch or a $100 gift card from Books-A-Million.

This year, special teen programs in “Make Waves @ the Library” will take place at the Powdersville Branch Library, 4 Civic Court, on Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

“Mosaic Madness” on June 11 will feature making original designs with tiles. On June 18, teens will create small artist cards to trade or give away. In July, “Book Bingo” will be held on July 2, when participants can win free books. An open art class will be held on July 9 and there’ll be cupcake decorating on July 16.

Teens may register for the Reading Program at the Main Library or the Powdersville branch library beginning June 1 or at the “Twilight” Party on June 5. Stop by a library to pick up a schedule of events. For more information, contact Kate Walker at 260-4500, ext. 114.
