Atresmedia Sells ‘La Ruta’ to Portugal’s NOS, as the Spanish Network’s Post-Mipcom Deals Surge (EXCLUSIVE)

‘La Ruta’ Heads to Portugal’s NOS

The popular Spanish drama “La Ruta” has successfully expanded its global reach with the sale of both its seasons to NOS, a prominent Portuguese pay-TV operator. This strategic deal will see NOS first launch Season 1 of the series in Portugal, with the anticipated Season 2, “La Ruta. Vol. 2: Ibiza,” following in 2026. This acquisition highlights the growing demand for well-produced, engaging Spanish narratives in the European market.

Atresmedia’s Post-Mipcom Momentum

The agreement for “La Ruta” is just one part of a broader wave of post-Mipcom deals that have solidified Atresmedia’s reputation as a prolific and influential content distributor. The Spanish company has successfully brokered a variety of sales across different genres and regions, reinforcing Spain’s standing in the international television landscape.

  • ‘Honor’ Expands Reach: The Spanish adaptation of Showtime’s legal thriller “Your Honor,” titled “Honor,” has been acquired by Global Series Network’s Walter Presents for the U.K. and by Nova for Greece.
  • ‘Alba’ Continues International Roll-out: Starring Elena Rivera and inspired by the Turkish hit “Fatmagül,” “Alba” has further extended its reach to SIC in Portugal, Alpha in Greece, and Telma in the Balkans.
  • ‘Entre Tierras’ Premieres in Finland: The period saga “Entre Tierras,” featuring Megan Montaner, is set to premiere in Finland on YLE.
  • Multiple Acquisitions by NOS and YLE: The 12th-century period drama “Beguinas,” starring Amaia Aberasturi and Yon González, will air on both NOS and Finland’s YLE. Additionally, the sci-fi thriller “Santuario,” led by Aura Garrido, joins NOS’ slate following its earlier Baltic launch via TV3/GO3 and TET platform.
  • Strengthening Partnership with RTP: Portuguese public broadcaster RTP has continued its collaboration with Atresmedia by acquiring the musical dramedy “Mariliendre,” a production in partnership with Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrosi’s Suma Content.
  • Deals with Greece’s Nova: Nova in Greece has licensed several Atresmedia productions, including “Déjate ver,” a dramatic comedy by Álvaro Carmona, “Dos años y un día,” a comedy starring Arturo Valls, and the sports biopic “El Gran Salto.”

Highlighting New Dramas at Mipcom

Atresmedia also garnered considerable attention at Mipcom, with market analyst The Wit singling out two of its upcoming dramas, “Las Hijas de la Criada” and “La Encrucijada,” as particularly outstanding new productions. “Las Hijas de la Criada,” adapted from Sonsoles Ónega’s Premio Planeta-winning novel, is scheduled for a November 30 premiere on Atresplayer before its Antena 3 debut. “La Encrucijada,” a co-production with Secuoya Studios and Turkey’s Ay Yapim, is an adaptation of the Turkish fiction “Brave and Beautiful.”

‘La Ruta. Vol. 2: Ibiza’ Premiere and Production

An exclusive first look at a new episode of “La Ruta” premiered at Spain’s Mostra de València – Cinema del Mediterrani, ahead of its recent launch on Atresplayer. “La Ruta. Vol. 2: Ibiza,” directed by Borja Soler and produced by Atresmedia with Rodrigo Sorogoyen-partnered Caballo Films, delves into two distinct timelines. It explores 1996, featuring DJ Marc Ribó (Àlex Monner) at Amnesia, and 1972, focusing on his parents’ lives on a more free-spirited Ibiza before a tragic plane crash.

These strategic international sales underscore Atresmedia’s capability to transform local Spanish successes into global phenomena. The network’s robust activity in securing deals post-Mipcom further solidifies Spain’s position as a significant and dynamic territory for scripted television content on the international stage.
